Hone Primary School, located in the United Kingdom, is cracking down on attendance and they aren’t taking any excuses.

News surfaced when Faye May went to the press after her 5-year-old son Ozzie school refused to allow him participate in end of the term cinema trip. Ozzie had missed nine days of school due to being struck by a car, which in turn dropped his attendance below the 96 percent threshold. Ozzie’s mum, Faye, 50 said: “He is only five and he looks at it like he has been naughty and he is being punished. I have been trying to explain to him not to feel like it was his fault that he got run over.” Leah Goulding, a school administrator, stated “We introduced an incentive scheme to improve pupils’ attendance, which was previously below an acceptable level and put us in the bottom 10 per cent in the country.”

The school stated that they were empathetic with Ozzie’s case however they are not planning to bend the rules.
