Billionaire John Malone is said to be the top dog that sealed the acquisition of Starz by Lionsgate. The 75-year-old media mogul is worth an estimated $7.3 billion and is a powerhouse when it comes to buying major media companies.

Malone purchased a stake in Lionsgate in 2015 and also controls Discovery Communications and Liberty Media. It is also said that his investments also include shares in Sirius XM, Live Nation, Atlanta Braves, and Time Warner.

Well, the mogul definitely used his investment in Starz to help create one of the top media players in the the world, Lionsgate-Starz. The two companies combined will have a library of 16,000 films and television shows and millions of cable subscribers.

The deal is expected to close by the end of 2016.
