Kendrick Lamar’s phenomenal release DAMN is claiming its top spot at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards. The Compton, CA emcee has been nominated for eight awards.

Lamar’s hit “Humble” landed him on the video of the year, artist of the year, best hip-hop video, best direction, art direction, choreography, cinematography and visual effects. His competition this year is Katy Perry and The Weeknd, both of which have earned five nominations each. Bruno Mars is also making a splash with four nominations.

The 2017 VMAs will air live Aug. 27, 8PM ET/PT from the Forum in Inglewood, California.
