The 2017 Soul Train Awards went underway last night and the Soul Cypher and performances were nothing short of spectacular.
Soul singer Erykah Badu served as host once again at this years Soul Train Awards. Outside of her perfect comedic timing, skits, and kneel to pay homage to Colin Kapernick and social injustice, Badu was joined by a star-studded group of artists who came to show out. Of those who performed, the Soul Cypher (featuring Fantasia, Mali, Faith Evans, and Bilal) was a moment to remember. R&B trio, SWV, got the audience up out of their seats with their 90s classics. Tank kept it sexy when he hit the stage and Ro James, Luke James and Jessie J sung classic tunes by the incomparable Toni Braxton, who was honored for her contributions to R&B/Soul music.
Winners of the evening included SZA, who took home Best New Artist, and Bell Biv Devoe and Ledisi who both won the Soul Train Certified Award.
