Phoenix Mercury Defeats Minnesota Lynx to Advance to WNBA Finals

The Phoenix Mercury defeated the Minnesota Lynx 96-78 in game three of the Western Conference Finals and will advance to the WNBA Finals. Diana Taurasi had 31 points and 7 assists for Phoenix, both were game-highs. Brittney Griner had 22 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for Phoenix. Dewanna Bonner and Candice Dupree each had 14 points for Phoenix and Bonner grabbed a team-high 7 rebounds. Penny Taylor scored 10 points for Phoenix and all five starters for the Mercury scored in double-figures. The Mercury made a impressive 58.7% of their shots and shot 46.2% from the three-point line.

Seimone Augustus led Minnesota in scoring with 21 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Lindsay Whalen had 20 points, 8 rebounds and team-high 6 assists for Minnesota. Maya Moore had 16 points and 5 assists for Minnesota. Minnesota made 42.3% of their shots and 31.6% of their three-pointers, the Mercury clearly shot a lot better than them on the court. For the last three years the Lynx represented the West in the NBA Finals and Phoenix will represent the West now and most likely win the Finals.

Phoenix finished the regular season with 29-5 record and their 29 wins is a WNBA record for wins in a regular season. Phoenix and Minnesota had the two best records in the WNBA and this series was basically the WNBA Finals based on the matchup. The Mercury will play the winner of the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever series in the WNBA Finals. Phoenix should cruise to the WNBA title, they swept both teams in their regular season matchups.
