The Atlanta Hawks received guard Tim Hardaway Jr. and two future draft picks from the New York Knicks in a 2015 NBA Draft night trade. The Hawks sent the draft rights of guard Jerian Grant out of Notre Dame to the Knicks. Grant was the 19th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft and the Hawks will receive the Washington Wizards 2016 and 2019 second round picks. Hardaway averaged 11.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists last season for New York. Hardaway is averaging 10.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.3 assists in his two-year NBA career.

Hardaway made 121 three-pointers last season which would have been second-most made on the Hawks. Hardaway gives the Hawks a shooting guard that can create his own shot and provide instant offense off the bench. Hardaway could become the Hawks starting shooting guard if small forward DeMarre Carroll doesn’t resign and they can’t find a replacement for him. Guard Kyle Korver could move back to the small forward position and Hardaway or Kent Bazemore could start at shooting guard.

The Hawks got a good wing player that should continue to get better in his third-year in the league. Jeff Teague assists should go up this year with Korver and Hardaway on the floor together at times. The Hawks future is looking good so far next season, only time will tell once free agency ends.
