Once called the “greatest basketball coach nobody knew,” the life of Don Meyer will soon hit theaters.

On record as having 903 wins (as of January 2009), Meyer beat coach Bob Knight’s record. At that point, he became the winningest coach in men’s college basketball history. He spent most of his career at Lipscomb University, where he inspired many on and off court for 24 years. However in 2008, Meyer got in a tragic car accident leaving him with an amputated leg and diagnosed with intestinal cancer. He battled with cancer for six years until his death, in May 2014, at age 69.

In the movie, Judge Reinhold will play coach Meyer.

“One of the many inspiring things about playing Don was realizing that everything he taught in basketball was intended as a direct life application.  For Don, NBA stood for ‘next best action’.  ‘Keep it simple’ meant stay in the fundamentals of the game, don’t make it complicated.”

The film is produced by Brad Wilson, Jamie Elliot and Casey Bond and directed by Ralph E. Portillo.  The film is tentatively scheduled for release in April 2015.
